Cordless vs. Corded EHR Workstations: Factors to Consider

Nurses have many battery-powered devices they use to care for patients, but one of the most critical to quality of care is the EHR workstation required for charting data. These workstations are used continuously throughout the busy 24/7 hospital cycle, and they must boost efficiency; they should never impede it.

Corded stations often hinder the goal of real-time charting in the presence of the patient. They create battery anxiety for nurses. Nurses contending with corded workstations will often opt to chart at a desktop in the nurses’ station rather than risk losing data from a nearly depleted internal battery or dealing with the hassle of searching for an available outlet to charge. Workstations that use swappable battery technology, such as MobiusPower®, however, offer an array of workflow-enhancing benefits over stations that must be plugged in to recharge.

This is the first installment of our five-part blog series discussing the reasons why cordless workstations are the better choice for clinical settings. In our series, we’ll discuss the following factors:

  • Flexibility
  • Efficiency
  • Convenience
  • Availability
  • Battery charge
  • Budget
  • Durability
  • Safety
  • Space
  • Ergonomics

At Enovate Medical, we take time with our clients, working directly with nurses and IT professionals, to conduct a thorough clinical device assessment (CDA). In doing so, our clients have lowered their overall capital outlay and reduced their operational expenses. Most importantly, they’ve achieved enhanced nursing workflow and therefore an improved patient experience.
